Great time so far.

Good day from the East Coast.

Double Fish joke day:  What fish only shines at night? ...Starfish   and another knee slapper.
What lives in the ocean, is grouchy and hates neighbours?........A hermit crab!

And my blog has hit a mile stone since publishing began.  Over 5000 visits and maintaining close to 400 per month.  Which means to me - it is serving a purpose and thank you for stopping to follow our adventures and keep up with our progress in this battle.

No treatment updates.  We have been simply enjoying our time in PEI.  The weather has been co-operative, the Island is wonderful and in general just amazing with a side of great relaxation.

We had a wonderful day on the water last week.  This is the beginning of our fishing trip, just over 2KM off the North Shore of PEI - which is actually the most Easterly Tip of the Island.  This fishing boat was pulling in Herring and attracted some Tuna - which we chummed the water for.

This video is us feeding the Tuna prior to catching a 900LBS monster.  Highly recommend Tuna fishing in PEI from July through to Oct.  Amazing.

We also visited the Province House which is the location which the idea of Canada was discussed and the Confederation started.  Was a very cool tour.

Teresa has been attending her conference the past couple of days so it was R&R time for me.  Found a local diner, which is impeccably clean, to enjoy breakfast.  Then I take a drive somewhere as a daily adventure followed by napping, hot tub and doing NOTHING, not even thinking.

More photos and videos to follow in a Our Trip to PEI post or 2.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

The upcoming month

Good Day

Fish Joke:     Why did the fish blush?             Because he saw the boat's bottom.

Treatment update:  Next review appointment is Oct 6th, which we will review my most recent CT Scan.  Fingers, knees and toes crossed the results are still positive and show signs of additional shrinkage and regression of the Cancer Cells.  That will mean continued treatments as you may know - I am good with that as long as progress is being made.    Finding some of the side effects are getting alittle stronger with each treatment.  With the last 2 I stopped taking a Steroid based medication which helps with side effects of the treatments, though has side effects of it own.  I find fatigue and upset stomach are worse then with the drug.  Though my face is not as "poofy" and perhaps will reduce mood swings with reduced weight gain. So some positives to go with the negatives.  I am good not taking the drug.

Now hopefully there is no Air Canada strike effecting our flight to PEI.  That will be really disappointing and annoying.  The fishing Charter wants to move up our fishing day from Sat to Fri due to weather forecasts, which means we may have to cancel.  Boy this is stressful not knowing what is going to be going on and then really only having 24 hours to rebook everything.   Ugh.   On the bright side.
Here is a link to the 1 place we are staying - a light house converted into a suites.

Here is an interesting article I came across about Cancer Research and using a Virus to treat some cases.  Currently this is in very early trial stage - though very interesting and promising is this can prove to be effective and a viable treatment method.

Chat again soon - hopefully posting from the east coast.

Some Rambling

Good Day

Fish joke: (Tuna fishing here I come.)

Three guys that all worked building high rise buildings sat down to lunch one day. The first one opens his lunch and says, "Tunafish, tunafish, I hate tunafish. If I get tuna fish one more time I'm jumping."

The other two guys open their lunches and say the same thing.

The next day the first guy opens his lunch and says, "Ah, ham and cheese."

The next two open their lunches and say, "Tunafish, tunafish, I hate tunafish. If I get tunafish one more time I'm going to jump."

The third day the first two guys open their lunches and both got their favorite sandwiches. The third guy opens his lunch and says, "Tunafish, tunafish, I hate tunafish. All right, that's it. I'm jumping." So he goes to the edge and jumps off.
The other two look on not believing what just happened. After a while the first guy says, "Gee, that's sad. He actually jumped."

The second guy says, "Yeah, the worst part is that he packed his own lunch."

___________

So as time goes on so does my treatments and the pounds.  Last weigh in I put another 5lbs on.  The Doc is ok with this as it is better the loosing weight and allows the body access to the energy it needs to repair.  Putting the pounds on has slowed, each weigh in is less llbs.  Next CT Scan is Monday Sept 19th.  Results will not be reviewed till Oct 6th though.  At this time I am still feeling good, treatment knocks me down that is for sure, but I rebound after a few days and keep on truck'n.  Moving forward it looks like we are going to be making decisions based on CT Scan results.  So every 6 treatments or 3 months there will be a review to see how treatment is going and what the next step is.  So Oct 6th will be the next review then Dec.   As long as there is shrinkage and no further growth - we are happy.  Updates to follow.

The time of year is here to pack the shorts and golf shirts away and break out the long johns, sweaters and Parkas.  It is also a great time for a trip to the East Coast.  Thank you Teresa for winning the Service Excellence Award and her parents John and Cathy for making it possible for me to join her on this trip.  Planning pretty much complete and we will be away from Sept 22 - Sept 30th.
Some activities we will be doing:
- A quick journey across the Confederation Bridge and of course visiting the Confederation House where we will sign in like Royalty.
- Our 1 motel room is in a light house for a couple of nights.
- Anne of Green Gables house visit.  (a must for women who step foot on the island.)

- A visit to Cavendish
- Bluefin Tuna fishing and oyster feast. (going to be a blast - really looking forward to a big fish)
- Another boat tour with somemore local oysters, muscles and local entertainment
And  a whole lot more.  I will post some pics of the trip.

Cheers everyone - have a great fall (meaning season) and keep smilin

How my days go.

Good day  - y'all.

Fish Joke:  This one is in preparation for the upcoming, inevitable, undesired, relentless and yet beautiful winter season.
Bob is sitting on the ice all day fishing with no luck, not even a nibble. Cold and tired he is about to leave, when a guy walks up cuts a hole in the ice beside him, and starts pulling out fish as fast a he can drop his hook in the water. Bob can’t believe it, he yells over ” whats your secret?” “woogatkakeptewrwm” he answers back. “what did you say?” replies Bob. The man spits a large ball of worms on the ice and says to Bob, ” you have to keep your worms warm”.

I often hear comments or get asked - what do you do all day - you must get bored.  So here is an idea of how my days go.  Now you really have the chance to spend a day with Jay.

530 am the alarm clock will start going off as Teresa has to get ready for work.  This wakes me as well.  So I get up around the same time as Teresa after hitting snooze a half dozen or so times.
Once up I will make lunch for my wonderful wife then drive her to work.

Once back home 730 - 8am.  Perfect time for breakfast, go online check out some news, Facebook of course and email.  That will take me to 10am or so. Snack time.
Now depending on the day in my treatment cycle, if the earlier part, this will be where I have my first nap.  If the end part of the cycle I will keep busy in other ways.
- Alittle bit of outside tinkering in the yard or some small wood project.
- A walk around the neighborhood
- Laundry, grocery shopping or other domestic chores (they yucky stuff)
- Take an extended bath, which I have grown to enjoy.  (rubber ducky yer the one, you make bath time so much fun.......)
- wash the car
I am sure you get the point.  There is always something to be done.  As our neighbor Maurice says "man you must sit up at night just thinking of shit to do".  As he often sees me in the backyard plugging away at something.

Soon noon - 1pm is upon my day.  Time to eat again, as I must have nourishment every 2 -3 hours or look out the beast arrives in full force.   So have something to eat - watch alittle TV.
- now most days, does not matter the stage of the treatment cycle
Lunch is followed by an afternoon nap.

After my nap, I may continue with whatever I began earlier in the day or start on something new.  Around 3 or so I will also have another Snack. Then it is time to pick Teresa up from work and back home.

Now we will start supper and I chat for a bit, perhaps finish outside projects together.  Have supper, clean up.  Enjoy our favorite past time entertainment.  Yes siree there has got to be a reality TV show of some sort on.  Or a movie we want to watch.  We are cinematic junkies for movies or night time TV.    Then off to bed.

Seems in the evening I bake alot as well.   Zuccini bread, peanut butter cookies, oatmeal cookies, slow cooker carrot cake (my fav).   Food in general is on my mind alot.  I go to bed thinking about breakfast and wake up thinking about lunch and supper.  Sometimes I think about each meal 2-3 days in advance.  Hmm perhaps that is contributing to my appetite and the 30lbs I have put on.  With the chilly weather coming upon us going to have to break out the WII Fit again.  Back to the indoor activities.

So in summary - I find stuff to productively occupy my days.  I still have to feel I am accomplishing something.  By "thinking of shit to do" and checking them off the list I satisfy this need.  And every nap is justified as part of the healing process, so even then I am productive.

Anyways hope that gives you an idea of how I pass my time, keeping busy, yet resting with the focus on getting better.

Have a great weekend and keep smilin - even when Monday hits.

Hello September

Good Day to you.

Fish Joke:  Three priests were fishing on a boat when they ran out of bait. The first priest got up and walked across the water to get some more bait. After 2 hours they ran out of bait again and the second priest said he would go get more bait…so he got up and walked across the water. After 3 hours of fishing they ran out of bait again and the third priest said he would get more bait. So he stepped out of the boat and went straight to the bottom. The first priest turned to the second priest and asked, “Should we have told him where the rocks were?

Well September is here.  Kids and teachers are back to school.  Days are shorter and the temp starts to drop.  Soon the leaves will turn colors and fall will be in full swing.  For now - I shall enjoy each sunny day and look forward to sparking a couple of backyard fires while the weather is co-operative.    And the best thing about this September is the count down to our trip to PEI.  Boy oh boy - looking forward to it and it is going to be fun.  We are due to return home on Friday Sept 30th, a typical treatment day, we were hoping to move treatments to a Tuesday or Wednesday, giving our weekends back.  That did not work out.........

Teresa and I met with the doctor last week to review progress, there is no change since the last the last CT Scan. No pain, no irregularities and no change in how I feel.    Another CT will be scheduled in the upcoming weeks, prior to our trip which will show progress of treatments and  how the Cancer is responding.   Fingers crossed there is only forward progress and shrinkage is the prominent term in the result report.    Treatments will continue on Friday's due to our PEI trip, treatment will be postponed 1 week, resuming on Oct 7th.  At this point the Doctor is not giving a number to how many treatments there will be.  So we will continue as we have for the past few months though look forward to each CT Scan as the progress marker.  Time being divided up based on the 2 week treatment cycles and the 3 month CT Scans.   Perhaps the December Scan will be Merry Christmas to me!    In summary - feeling good, rebounding from treatments ok, looking forward to the upcoming CT Scan and still smiling.

That is it for now.  Be back later this week with some just because jabber.

Keep Smilin
